                    COVID-19 Policies for Cruise Suppliers

Abercrombie & Kent - Cruises

COVID-19 Policy:

Health & Safety Standards:

  Arrival Procedures/Guest Boarding Requirements

We encourage you to bring your own masks; a supply will be on hand where needed.

Captain and Crew Boarding and Onboard Requirements:

Everyone involved in running your journey observes a strict, round-the-clock health and safety regimen, including regular staff health and temperature monitoring.

A&K staff wear masks at all times and additional personal protective equipment as required.

    Ship Safety Protocols:

Wearing a mask is required in vehicles, indoor spaces, and any outdoor spaces where physical distancing is not possible.

We follow the guidelines established by the leading health experts (including the World Health Organization) to minimize any opportunity for coronavirus exposure during your journey.

We’ll have hand sanitizer readily available, ensure enhanced cleaning in rooms and restaurants, sanitize vehicles at every arrival and departure (with a focus on high-frequency touchpoints such as door handles) and provide individual service at all meals.

    Guest Safety: Onboard and Offshore:

Our local offices are experienced in handling emergencies and have the contacts and knowledge to support guests 24/7 in the event of medical challenges, including, if necessary, arranging for doctor’s visits or even emergency medical evacuation.

Your guides are fully versed in your destination’s health regulations as well as A&K’s practices and protocols.

Moving forward, your guides will forego shaking hands when saying hello, and you’ll experience no-contact check-in/check-outs in many hotels and dining arranged to allow for plenty of space from other guests.

A&K’s local staff have longstanding relationships with our suppliers, including restaurants, hotels, boats, transportation providers and venues. These partners know our exacting standards and have been fully vetted by our staff to make sure they comply with all local regulations regarding health and hygiene.

Hurtigruten

COVID-19 Policy:

Please click here for Cruise Supplier Covid-19 Policies.

Health & Safety Standards:

Currently, Hurtigruten is only open to the Norwegian market.

    Arrival Procedures/Guest Boarding Requirements

We will be reducing the overall number of guests on our ships, giving you plenty of space around you when aboard.

Before embarkation, you will be required to hand in a health questionnaire to confirm that you have not been in contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 14 days. If you are not able to confirm this, we cannot let you onboard the ship.

Please understand that we may also take the forehead temperature of guests before they are allowed to travel with us.

Captain and Crew Boarding and Onboard Requirements:

All Hurtigruten crew members follow national guidelines from the Norwegian Institute of Public Health at all times.

All crew members have all recently completed the WHO’s official COVID-19 course for hygiene procedures and infection management.

Before starting work, every member of the crew undergoes a health check.

The crew has thorough first-aid training and can quickly contact healthcare professionals should any medical need arise.

    Ship Safety Protocols:

Sanitizing dispensers will be placed at the entrance to the ship and in other strategic locations throughout the decks.

Sailing along the Norwegian coast, we are also never far away from the health service on land.

On board our expedition ships that sail to other remote destinations, we always make sure we have a doctor as part of the crew.

While we don’t expect it to become necessary, we also plan to reserve a number of cabins on board each ship for self-isolation.

Each ship will have a new team dedicated to ensuring communal areas are continually cleaned and disinfected.

We already have a range of strict cleaning practices on board and the cleanliness of each ship is also continuously monitored.

Regular microbiological samples are taken and sent off to laboratories for testing and we use UV light to check surfaces in cabins, galleys and public areas.

There will be limited use of saunas, swimming pools and gyms.

In our restaurants, we are adding more seating sessions so that there will be fewer people having their meals there at any time.

Instead of self-service buffets, our chefs will serve food directly to your individual plate.

    Guest Safety: Onboard and Offshore:

The general instruction for all our guests is to keep a reasonable and respectful distance from others at all times and to carefully observe good hand hygiene.

We also ask you to be flexible and adaptable if advice from the authorities changes and we need to make rapid and responsive updates to our current guidelines.

We will regulate the number of people who disembark and board the ship at the same time to avoid overcrowding.

We ask that you always take care to disinfect or wash your hands anytime you leave the ship and when coming back on board.

Our excursion program will be continually adapted as each supplier works to implement heightened cleaning and hygiene procedures according to national guidelines.

Thorough crew health testing and evaluation.

Thorough PPE equipment training for all crew members.

Onboard supply of personal protective equipment (PPE) including face shields, gloves and face masks for Crew.

Crew to exercise social distancing best practices at all times.

    Ship Safety Protocols:

Temperatures will be taken every morning before breakfast.

Use of personal protective gear such as masks during certain events and as situations may require.

Per US Federal mandate, guests and crew are required to wear masks whenever in the interior of the vessel or within 6 feet of others outside of their bubble. Consuming food, drinks, and cabin time are notable exceptions to this requirement. Masks may be requested at other times as the situation dictates.

Daily sanitation of all touchpoints in staterooms, with attention to handles, doorknobs, switches, etc.

Sanitation rounds conducted every four hours with attention to all touchpoints, such as railings, handholds, doorknobs, etc.

Placement of additional hand sanitizing stations throughout the ship.

We encourage guests to dine with the same shipmates as much as possible.

Tables are now spaced to ensure physical distancing.

Insofar as practical, guests may be placed on staggered eating schedules to further minimize the number of people in the dining room at any given time.

Plated meal service to replace buffets.

Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be kept behind transmission barriers and passed to guests individually.

When appropriate, evening presentations may take place on deck under the sun cover, or you may (depending on the boat’s capabilities) watch presentations from the comfort of your cabin.

    Guest Safety: Onboard and Offshore:

To the maximum extent possible, guests will be issued their own adventure and protective gear for use throughout the cruise (life jackets, boots, masks, etc.).

Crew members will sanitize all common-use adventure and protective gear daily.

Hiking, beach walks, kayaking, snorkeling, paddle boarding, and most off vessel activities will not require masks if social distancing is honored.

Masks will be required when direct contact with people is planned, for example during transfers on/off vessel. As such guests are requested to bring masks to last the duration of your adventure experience (UnCruise Adventures has them available if you forget).

    Viking Health & Safety Program

    Arrival Procedures/Guest Boarding Requirements

Your journey begins before you ever leave home, with a digital Health Questionnaire that you will complete on MyVikingJourney.com.

As always, guests who arrange their flights with Viking Air receive complimentary airport transfers. Now, with Viking Air, you will enjoy smaller group transfers to and from your ship on sanitized motor coaches that have been set up with physical spacing between occupied seats.

To avoid a congested embarkation, guests will be assigned boarding times based on their flight arrivals.

Upon arrival at your ship, check-in counters will be spread out to ensure proper distancing and sanitized between every guest; a touch-free online check-in option will also be available.

In cooperation with local partners, all cruise port terminals will be sanitized prior to guest arrivals.

As part of your check-in process, you will receive a temperature check via a touchless thermometer and complete a Health Questionnaire.

Developed by scientific and medical advisors, Viking’s new Health Questionnaire verifies your wellness for travel prior to boarding your ship.

You will receive a quick and easy non-invasive PCR test as part of the embarkation process—conducted via simple saliva sample in a plastic tube and processed in a full-scale Viking-dedicated laboratory.

Depending on local regulations and your travel itinerary, you will be asked to wait for your test result (an estimated maximum of four hours) in your pre-cruise hotel or in a designated waiting area.

Captain and Crew Boarding and Onboard Requirements:

Each of our ocean vessels will be equipped with a PCR laboratory, providing Viking with the capability to test all guests and crew every day if necessary.

A strong network of Viking-dedicated shoreside labs will bring the same high-quality, high-accuracy molecular testing regimen to our river ships.

Each of our ocean vessels has always had a state-of-the-art Medical Center; those facilities have now been upgraded with more specialized equipment.

We have also launched a new 24/7 hotline staffed by doctors, specifically for our river cruises.

    Ship Safety Protocols:

Enjoy fresh air in your stateroom, knowing that all staterooms on Viking ocean and river ships feature independent air handling units that do not share air with other areas of the ship.

Also take comfort in knowing that the air in the public areas of your ship has also been purified with new short-wavelength ultraviolet (UV-C) lights and high-density filters, which kill 99.99% of all airborne viruses and bacteria.

Quick and easy non-invasive PCR tests—via simple saliva sample—will be conducted daily throughout your itinerary, in the privacy of your stateroom.

Short Health Questionnaires will be completed daily, and temperature checks will be conducted effortlessly with automated thermal cameras.

Rest assured that the surfaces on your ship will be cleaned and sanitized continuously with daily scheduled deep cleanings.

You will notice more hand sanitization stations throughout your ship.

And on our ocean ships, we are using new sanitization robots that utilize UV-C light to treat surfaces in guest and crew public areas—an industry first.

More options for spaced seating in all dining venues will allow for physical distancing; self-serve dining stations will be replaced with staff service; there will be additional table service at all bars and lounges; and new capabilities will allow you to watch more live events and enriching content through your in-room entertainment system.

Similar to many local guidelines currently in place, physical distancing measures are in place in public areas on board, and face masks may be required for all guests and crew while moving about Viking ships, depending on conditions at time of sailing.

Face masks will not be required for guests when seated in dining venues, bars and lounges.

The Spa will remain open to all guests by appointment only to ensure proper distancing and all spa staff will wear face masks during treatments.

The Fitness Center will also remain open with its own dedicated sanitization staff to ensure all equipment and surfaces are cleaned in between each guest use.

    Guest Safety: Onboard and Offshore:

We have redesigned our land program to monitor destinations for the prevalence of COVID-19 and further limit group sizes.

To minimize potential risk, only Viking shore excursions will be offered while in port.

Each shore excursion will utilize audio headsets to allow for physical distancing among your group, and all excursion motor coaches will be fully sanitized with spaced seating.

As you head ashore, complimentary face masks will be provided for excursions where proper physical distancing may not be possible, or if required by local guidelines.

As part of the Viking Health & Safety Program, we will regularly test and train every local partner, including motor coach drivers and tour guides.

While ashore, Viking’s measures will meet or exceed local guidelines for social distancing and other precautions.

Your temperature will be checked quickly and seamlessly using automated thermal cameras when you re-embark the ship.

Captain and Crew Boarding and Onboard Requirements:

Implementing additional and frequent pre-boarding health checks and screenings for our Crew.

Routine temperature checks for our Crew, as well as routine testing for the COVID-19 virus.

Any Crew members who come into contact with anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 will isolate and take part in additional health checks to stop potential outbreaks.

Required gloves and frequent hand washing for high risk areas of contamination like pre-health check terminal welcome areas, delivery areas, laundry and waste disposal areas.

Basic COVID-19 testing and any cold or flu-like symptom health screenings are free of charge on board. Sailors and Crew have 24/7 access to our fully-equipped private medical health center.

We’ve increased our medical capabilities with additional ventilators, and increased inventories of oxygen capacity and PPE.

Isolated Sailors and Crew will receive care from third-party medical providers on board until they can disembark and receive any additional treatment that may be needed.

    Ship Safety Protocols:

Installing Thermal Camera technology on board to monitor our Crew and Sailors’ temperatures.

Adopting the use of advanced cleaning tools like fogging and UV technology — the same Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation methods used in hospitals and laboratories.

Every single piece of luggage and delivery to the ship is fogged down.

All cabins will be fogged prior to Sailors stepping on board, or in the case that you change cabins during the voyage.

Sanitizing dispensers in every public space, touchless faucets, increased hygiene signage, and leveraging hospital grade EPA registered disinfectants from EcoLab.

Identifying specific high touch points across cabins, public spaces, restaurants, and recreational areas that will be disinfected on a frequent basis.

Providing a continuous stream of 100% fresh air in all our cabins, suites, and public spaces.

Installing the latest technology from AtmosAir Solutions — an air purification system that disinfects air on board. Leveraging bi-polar Ionization technology, this air filtration system has been shown to kill 99.9% of viruses — and is the first of it’s kind in our industry.

Reducing our overall ship capacity for our start-up sailing period.

We don’t have buffets or large dining rooms; purposely creating smaller eateries to limit large crowds.

Food is only prepared when it’s ordered and delivered directly to you.

For masks, we follow the same guidance as is recommended on land — so if people are advised to wear masks there, we will do so at sea, as well.

    Guest Safety: Onboard and Offshore:

For all our Shore Things and at The Beach Club at Bimini, we only suggest activities on land that meet the sanitation or physical distancing requirements that we have on the ship.
